Most Visited Websites in 2026 (Top 200 Ranked)

I am going to tell you something most articles on the most visited websites will not. The “top 50” lists you find on the first page of Google are recycled, half-stale snapshots from Q4 of last year. Some are still quoting February 2024 numbers in May 2026. That is useless if you are doing competitor research, planning a content strategy, or just trying to understand where the internet’s attention actually sits today.

I am Mani Pathak, founder of Webseotrends.com. I have been doing SEO since 2017, helped 500+ clients globally, and I spend roughly two hours a week inside Semrush and Similarweb pulling traffic data for real client campaigns. So this list of the most visited websites in the world is not scraped from a Wikipedia mirror. It is built from the latest Semrush rankings (March 2026), Similarweb’s April 2026 top sites report, and my own checks across 18 categories.

If you only care about the list, scroll down. The full table of the top 200 most visited websites is below, with Position, Website, Change, Visits, Pages per Visit, and Bounce Rate. If you want to understand what the data means and how I would actually use it, stay with me.

Quick Verdict: The 10 Most Visited Websites in the World Right Now

In March 2026, the ten most opened websites on the planet by total monthly visits are: google.com, youtube.com, facebook.com, instagram.com, chatgpt.com, reddit.com, wikipedia.org, x.com, pornhub.com, and whatsapp.com. Google alone pulled 111.75 billion visits in a single month. That is more than the next two combined.

The biggest movers since January 2026 are ChatGPT (now consistently top 5 by Similarweb and Semrush), Claude.ai (up 14 positions to #36 on Similarweb), and Cricbuzz (a 102% mobile traffic jump from the IPL 2026 season). The biggest casualties are legacy news portals and a few SEO-dependent blogs that lost share to AI Overviews and chatbot answers.

Now the rest.

How I Built This Top 200 List of the Most Visited Websites

A lot of people read “list of websites” rankings and assume the numbers are clean. They are not. Different data providers use different methodologies, and your decision about which list to trust depends on what you are trying to do with it.

  • Semrush measures total monthly visits using a clickstream panel of 200+ million anonymized users. It tracks desktop and mobile web traffic, not app traffic. Their March 2026 update is the most recent at the time of writing.
  • Similarweb uses a hybrid approach: panel data, ISP partnerships, public web crawling, and on-site analytics from sites that connect directly. Their April 2026 ranking is the freshest single source for global website traffic rankings.
  • Cloudflare Radar publishes a different ranking based on DNS queries to its 1.1.1.1 resolver. It captures app traffic and bot traffic differently, which is why some lists place TikTok and WhatsApp higher than Semrush does.

For this top 200 most visited websites list, I cross-referenced Semrush March 2026 data (positions 1 to 20, where Semrush publishes verified visit counts) with Similarweb April 2026 rankings (positions 21 to 50, where Similarweb shows pages per visit and bounce rate publicly) and combined that with category-leader rankings for positions 51 to 200, weighted toward sources with verified panel data. Every visit number is rounded for readability, and every change column reflects month-over-month movement from the previous Semrush or Similarweb update.

If you want raw, unrounded data and country-level breakdowns, both Semrush and Similarweb’s free traffic checkers will give you that. But for a single global snapshot, this is the cleanest version I could build.

The Top 200 Most Visited Websites in 2026

Here is the full table. Visits are monthly. Pages per visit and bounce rate are average across the month. Change is month-over-month rank movement (a “=” means no change, a number is positions gained/lost).

Sources: Semrush March 2026 update (positions 1–20, verified visit counts), Similarweb April 2026 top sites (positions 21–50, verified engagement metrics), composite category-leader rankings cross-referenced with Cloudflare Radar and Wikipedia’s most-visited list (positions 51–200). Numbers beyond position 50 are rounded to the nearest 100,000.

What This Top Websites List Actually Tells You (And What Most People Miss)

After staring at website traffic rankings for almost a decade, I have learned that the raw numbers are the least interesting part. What matters is the pattern.

Here is what I see in the 2026 data.

Search engines own the top, but the gap is closing

Google still pulls 111 billion monthly visits. That number is roughly 2x what YouTube does and 10x what Facebook does. But the share of search traffic going to Google has dropped from 91% in 2022 to roughly 85% in March 2026, according to clickstream estimates. Where did the missing traffic go? ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude.ai, and Perplexity. Generative AI is now a real category of internet traffic, not just a novelty.

ChatGPT at #5 with 6.18 billion monthly visits is the headline. But Claude.ai jumping 14 spots in a single month to enter the top 40 is the story that should worry traditional search marketers. The shift is not happening over years. It is happening over quarters.

If you are doing SEO in 2026 and you are not tracking your visibility inside AI search engines, you are flying blind. I covered the tools I use for this in my best AI SEO tools breakdown, which goes through the 15 tools I tested with real client money.

Social media is a three-horse race now

Meta still owns 3 of the top 10 (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp). TikTok is at #14. X (formerly Twitter) is at #8 and climbing. Reddit has quietly grown into the 6th most visited website in the world, helped by years of Google rewarding Reddit threads in the SERP.

What is missing from the top 50 that surprised me: Snapchat, Discord (#50, but barely), and Telegram (when you count t.me as a sub-domain). Discord is interesting because it has more monthly active users than X, but most of those users live in the app, not the website. Same story for WhatsApp. The web traffic numbers undercount messaging platforms by a wide margin.

E-commerce is fragmenting fast

Amazon (#13) is still dominant, but Temu (#26 globally, climbing) has changed the shape of the global e-commerce market. Shein, AliExpress, and Mercado Libre all sit comfortably in the top 100. Walmart cracked the top 60. Etsy hangs on at #62.

The brutal truth for small business owners: the e-commerce traffic graveyard between positions 100 and 500 is full of independent Shopify stores that built well but never solved their traffic problem. If you are launching an e-commerce site in 2026, I would tell you to spend less time obsessing over your theme and more time on the SEO + paid acquisition combo. I went deep on this in my places to buy backlinks guide, which covers what actually moves rankings for ecommerce stores in competitive niches.

News is structurally declining

This part is uncomfortable to say. The New York Times (#46), CNN (#61), BBC (#60), Washington Post (#100), and Reuters (#102) all show flat or declining traffic. Why? Because AI Overviews now answer most “what happened” queries inside the SERP, and chatbots summarize news without sending users to the source.

I have spoken to two news editors in the past six months who told me their referral traffic from Google is down 30 to 45% year over year. That tracks with Similarweb’s data. News publishers without strong direct traffic or paywall conversion are quietly bleeding out.

India and Brazil are now major traffic origins

Look at positions 90 to 150. You will see a wall of Indian news properties (Times of India, Hindustan Times, NDTV, Aaj Tak, Hindustan, Dainik Bhaskar) and Brazilian properties (Globo, UOL, Mercado Livre). This is not a coincidence. India and Brazil together added roughly 200 million new internet users in the last three years. That share now shows up in global rankings.

If you run a content site and your traffic is mostly from the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, you are competing with the same 800 million users that every other content site is competing with. Expanding to Indian and Brazilian search demand is one of the easiest growth levers I have seen recently for clients with English content. I touched on the keyword research approach for this in my low competition keywords guide.

The Most Viewed Websites by Category: A Deeper Cut

The flat top 200 list is useful, but the more interesting view is the category breakdown. Here is what dominates each category as of May 2026.

Search engines (most visited website rankings by query share)

6baidu.com1.14BChina
7naver.com1.44BSouth Korea

DuckDuckGo’s quiet rise to ~2.16B monthly visits is one of the underreported stories of 2026. Privacy-first search has gone from a fringe choice to a meaningful share of global search traffic.

Reddit at #3 is the surprise. Most people still think of Reddit as a niche enthusiast platform. In 2026 it is the most popular long-form discussion platform on the open web, and it has become the place AI Overviews quote most often.

The fact that Yahoo Japan and Globo (Brazil) sit above the New York Times tells you everything about how localized news consumption still is. National news still beats global news for almost every audience.

The Most Opened Websites By Country (Snapshot)

The global rankings hide a lot. Here is what tops the most popular websites list in the major markets.

United States

Google, YouTube, Facebook, Amazon, Reddit, Yahoo, X, Wikipedia, Instagram, Bing. Yahoo and Wikipedia outpunch their global weight in the US because of older internet users and reference traffic.

India

Google.co.in, YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Times of India, Cricbuzz, Hindustan Times, NDTV, Flipkart. Cricbuzz hits ~50M monthly visits with massive spikes during IPL (April 2026 traffic hit 576M during peak IPL coverage, a 102% jump in mobile traffic month over month). For more on the Indian search market, my low competition keywords guide goes into local opportunity sizing.

United Kingdom

Google.co.uk, YouTube, Facebook, BBC.co.uk, Amazon.co.uk, X, Reddit, Daily Mail, Instagram, eBay.co.uk. The BBC’s grip on UK news is unusual globally. Most countries have multiple competing national news brands.

Brazil

Google.com.br, YouTube, Globo, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, UOL, Mercado Livre, Bet.br, Reddit. Bet.br at #19 globally is a Brazil-specific story. Sports betting exploded after regulation in 2024-2025.

Japan

Yahoo.co.jp, Google.co.jp, YouTube, News.yahoo.co.jp, Amazon.co.jp, X, Rakuten, Niconico, Wikipedia, LINE. Japan is the only major market where Yahoo (in the form of yahoo.co.jp) still beats Google for total visits.

Germany

Google.de, YouTube, Facebook, Amazon.de, X, eBay.de, Wikipedia, Instagram, Reddit, Bild.de. Germany still has a strong local news brand at the top (Bild).

China

Baidu, Bilibili, QQ, Weibo, Taobao, Tmall, Sohu, JD.com, 360.cn, Sina. The Chinese top 10 is almost entirely domestic. Google, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram are blocked.

The Wiki Websites Phenomenon

One of the LSI angles I want to dig into is the wikis websites layer of the internet, because it is genuinely interesting from an SEO standpoint.

The web has roughly three major wikis at the top of global rankings: Wikipedia (#7), Fandom (#39), and Wikidata (smaller but heavily cited by AI). Add in genre-specific wikis (Genshin Impact Wiki, Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki, Minecraft Wiki, all hosted on Fandom) and you get a layer of the internet that gets cited by AI Overviews more often than almost any other content type.

If you build content sites for a living, here is the lesson: wikis dominate because they have deep topical coverage, internal linking density, and an answer-first structure. That is the same pattern AI search engines reward. The wikis websites architecture is the closest thing to a future-proof content model the open web has invented. I built a similar topical-cluster approach for a B2B client in 2023 and 1,258% organic growth followed within 18 months.

How To Use This List of Websites for Your Own Strategy

Most people read a most-viewed-websites article and walk away with nothing actionable. Here is how I would actually use this data if I were a marketer, founder, or SEO consultant in 2026.

If you sell to consumers

Start with the platforms where your audience already spends time. If you target Gen Z, you are looking at TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, and Discord, in that order. If you target millennials, you are looking at Instagram, YouTube, X, and LinkedIn. Boomers and older skew toward Facebook, YouTube, and email (which means newsletters published on Substack or similar still work).

This is not new advice, but the surprise in 2026 is how much commercial intent has shifted to Reddit and Pinterest. People are searching “best [product]” on Reddit specifically because they trust the answers more than they trust the sponsored Google SERP.

If you sell B2B

LinkedIn (1.67B monthly visits) is the giant. After that, organic search via Google remains the highest-converting B2B channel in most niches. Twitter/X has come back as a serious B2B channel post-2024. Reddit B2B subs (r/SaaS, r/Entrepreneur, r/marketing) drive real demos when you participate honestly.

For B2B SEO specifically, I have an honest comparison of the tools I use at Ubersuggest vs Ahrefs. The short answer is that you need both keyword data and backlink data, and how you mix them depends on your budget.

If you are building a content site or blog

The reference websites I mentioned (Wikipedia, Fandom, Quora at #57 still pulling 602M visits) are your benchmark for content depth. The news sites are your warning. Thin, surface-level content does not get traffic in 2026. It does not get clicks from Google SERPs (because AI Overviews eat the simple answers), and it does not get cited by AI chatbots (because they prefer authoritative, deep-coverage sources).

If you are starting out, my how to start a blog guide goes through the exact framework I use with new bloggers, including the niche, hosting, and content choices that compound over 12 to 24 months.

If you are doing PR or trying to get press

The news sites in positions 45 to 100 (NYTimes, BBC, CNN, Daily Mail, WSJ, Reuters, Bloomberg) are still the highest-value referral sources. A single feature in any of them is worth more than 1,000 small mentions. The honest truth is that pitching is hard, slow work that most “growth hackers” skip. But it still moves the needle harder than almost any paid channel for early-stage brands.

The 2026 Trends Hiding in the Top 200

A few patterns in this list of websites are worth flagging.

AI chatbots took 5+ of the top 200 spots in under three years. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Character.AI, Hugging Face. No other category in the last 15 years has scaled that fast.

Streaming services compete for a shrinking pie. Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Prime Video, Max, Paramount+, Peacock all sit between positions 104 and 110 with similar visit counts. The big winner of cord-cutting was, ironically, YouTube and TikTok, not any individual streamer.

Adult content sites are roughly 8% of the top 50. This is the same percentage as it was in 2018. The category did not grow share, but it did not shrink either, despite increased regulation in the US and EU.

Russian-language sites lost rank since 2022 but did not collapse. Yandex, Dzen, Mail.ru, VK, Wildberries, Ozon all still sit in the top 100. The Western assumption that the Russian internet would be cut off from global rankings did not play out fully.

Cricket and Indian sports websites are the hottest growth category in 2026. Cricbuzz, ESPNcricinfo, and Hotstar are all gaining double-digit monthly visits during IPL season. If you build content sites in India, sports is a category gold rush right now.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Most Visited Websites

What is the most visited website in the world in 2026?

Google.com is the most visited website in the world in 2026, with approximately 111.75 billion monthly visits in March 2026 according to Semrush. It has held the #1 position uninterrupted since the early 2010s. YouTube is second with 54.4 billion monthly visits, and Facebook is third with 10.85 billion. Together the top 3 account for roughly 30% of all measured web traffic on the open internet.

How many websites are there in the world in 2026?

There are approximately 1.13 billion websites in the world in May 2026, according to Netcraft’s web server survey. Of those, only around 200 million are active. The top 1,000 most visited websites collectively account for roughly 75% of all global web traffic, which means the long tail of small sites collectively gets only 25% of visits. This concentration has grown steadily since 2015.

Which website has the most visits in 2026?

Google.com has the most visits in 2026 with 111.75 billion monthly visits as of March 2026. It is the only website on the planet that crosses 100 billion monthly visits. To put that in scale, Google does in roughly two days what the New York Times does in an entire month. The website with the most visits has not changed since 2008 and is unlikely to be displaced in this decade.

Is YouTube the second most visited website?

Yes, YouTube is the second most visited website in the world in 2026, with 54.4 billion monthly visits according to Semrush March 2026 data. YouTube has held the #2 spot continuously since around 2014. It is also the most engaging website in the top 10, with users spending an average of 18 minutes 48 seconds per visit and viewing 11.65 pages per session.

How does ChatGPT rank among the most popular websites?

ChatGPT is the 5th most visited website in the world in 2026, with 6.18 billion monthly visits as of March 2026. ChatGPT entered the top 10 in mid-2024 and has remained in the top 5 since late 2025. It is the fastest-growing major website in modern internet history, going from launch (November 2022) to top 5 globally in under 36 months.

What is the most visited website by traffic in India?

Google.co.in is the most visited website by traffic in India, followed by YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Among India-specific properties, Times of India leads news, Cricbuzz leads sports (especially during IPL), Flipkart leads ecommerce, and Hotstar (now JioHotstar) leads streaming. Indian language news sites like Aaj Tak, Dainik Jagran, and Dainik Bhaskar each pull 40+ million monthly visits.

What is the most opened website in the United States?

Google.com is the most opened website in the United States, followed by YouTube, Facebook, Amazon, Reddit, and Wikipedia. Amazon’s #4 rank in the US is significantly higher than its global rank (#13) because of the country’s outsized ecommerce penetration. The US also has higher Reddit and Wikipedia usage than most other major markets.

How do Semrush and Similarweb measure website traffic differently?

Semrush uses clickstream data from 200+ million anonymized users and combines it with proprietary modeling, while Similarweb uses a hybrid panel-plus-ISP-plus-on-site approach. Both measure desktop and mobile web traffic but not app traffic. The two often differ by 5 to 15% on absolute visit counts but agree closely on relative rankings. For directional decisions, either is fine. For exact numbers, neither is perfect.

Which is more accurate for website traffic rankings, Semrush or Similarweb?

Neither is universally more accurate. Semrush tends to track US and English-speaking traffic better. Similarweb tends to be slightly better for emerging markets, mobile-heavy traffic, and ecommerce. The honest answer is that you should use both for any serious decision. For SEO competitor research, Semrush wins. For market sizing and audience overlap, Similarweb wins. Most professional teams subscribe to both.

Are app downloads counted in the top website rankings?

No, the top websites rankings published by Semrush, Similarweb, and Cloudflare Radar measure web traffic only. They do not include traffic to native iOS or Android apps. This means platforms like TikTok, WhatsApp, Instagram, Spotify, and YouTube are dramatically underrepresented in the rankings because most of their usage happens inside apps, not browsers. If app traffic were counted, WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok would all rank ahead of Google.

How often do website traffic rankings change?

Major website traffic rankings change monthly, with Semrush updating its public list around the 13th of each month and Similarweb updating around the 1st. Positions in the top 20 are stable and rarely move more than 1-2 spots month over month. Positions 21-100 can move 5-10 spots in a normal month. Positions 100-500 can shift dramatically based on seasonality, news events, and viral content.

What is the most viewed website in the world that is not English?

Yahoo.co.jp is the most viewed non-English-primary website in the world, with 2.06 billion monthly visits as of March 2026. It is followed by Yandex.ru (1.50 billion), Naver.com in Korean (1.44 billion), Globo.com in Portuguese (882 million), and Baidu.com in Chinese (1.14 billion). Non-English content makes up roughly 35% of the global top 50 websites in 2026.

Are wikis websites still relevant in 2026?

Yes, wikis websites are more relevant than ever in 2026. Wikipedia at #7 and Fandom at #39 are both major global sites, and wiki content is the single most cited source in AI chatbot answers across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity. The wikis websites format (deep topical coverage, internal linking, answer-first structure) is exactly what AI search engines reward, making wikis a strategic content model for marketers in 2026.

Why is Wikipedia ranked higher than X (Twitter) on some lists?

Wikipedia is ranked #7 globally on Semrush March 2026 data, while X is ranked #8, putting them very close. Wikipedia leads on Semrush; X leads on some Similarweb monthly snapshots. The difference is that Wikipedia traffic is heavily search-driven (people visit one article and leave), while X traffic is session-driven (people stay longer and view more pages). Both methodologies have valid arguments. Realistically they are tied for #7 / #8.

How can I check the traffic of a specific website?

You can check the traffic of any specific website for free using Similarweb’s website traffic checker, Semrush’s free website overview, or SimilarTech’s profile lookup. For more accurate data on sites that get less than 10,000 monthly visits, you generally need a paid subscription. Free tools give you the top-level numbers and category benchmarks, which is enough for most competitor research and content planning use cases.

Which AI chatbot website gets the most visits?

ChatGPT (chatgpt.com) gets the most visits among AI chatbot websites, with 6.18 billion monthly visits as of March 2026. Gemini (gemini.google.com) is second at approximately 1.51 billion, Claude.ai is third at 1.05 billion, and Perplexity.ai is fourth at 51.9 million. The gap between ChatGPT and the rest is widening, not narrowing, but Claude.ai has grown the fastest in percentage terms over the past 12 months.

What This All Means for Your Strategy

If you took only one thing from this top 200 most visited websites breakdown, let it be this: the gap between the top 10 and everyone else is wider than it has ever been, and the way you reach the top 10 is shifting from search to AI.

The Wikipedia model still works. The Reddit model still works. The YouTube model still works. The “thin SEO content with affiliate links” model is dying, fast, and the visit data shows it.

If you want to build something that compounds in the next decade, look at the top 50 websites and ask: what do they have in common? They serve real intent. They have deep topical coverage. They generate community or content density that AI cannot easily replace.

That is the bar. Not “rank for a keyword.” Not “publish a 2,000-word article.” Build something AI search engines have to cite and humans want to visit twice.

If you want my honest take on the tools, hosting, and tactics that work for the small site trying to climb into that crowd, my SEO category and web hosting category on the blog cover everything I would tell a client paying me for the same advice. The principles do not change just because the rankings do.

Now go check where your site sits, and start moving.
